Please guess: "Punakea" means what?

As noribori started guessing already, please feel absolutely free to tell us your ideas! Anything crazy or funny that you comes to your mind?! ;)

[snip from Tripane Tagger] noribori: "BTW, what does Punakea mean? Let me guess - it comes from "Pancake". Make your folder hierarchy as flat as a pancake. Right?"[/snip]

So noribori, nice try, but sorry, totally wrong! :)

Guess #2: You once met a girl from Punakea...

Sounds interesting... :) So

Sounds interesting... :) So Punakea also seems to be an isle or city or what?
Hint: No girls, no food. Give foreign dicts a try ;) "Punakea" is directly related to the most obvious ui element of our browser...

What a pity. Thinking of a

What a pity. Thinking of a girl everywhere - that just sounds like you Daniel ;-)

The name might also be related to "pun" and "keyword". However, there still seems to be another secret ingredient...
And, yes, Google says there is a "Punakea Place" on Hawai.

A friend of mine is currently working on Hawaii. So maybe I'll ask her to send some photos from that place on Mokuloa Island? ;)
You're quite close. So what would she answer if I ask her for the meaning of "punakea"?

Okay, I found an online

Okay, I found an online Hawaiian Dictionary. It says "Puna.kea" means "A barely visible rainbow".
Hm.
But "puna" and "kea" have a lot of other meanings, e.g. "puna" means also "spring". And the meaning of "kea" might also be "clear" or "Breast milk".

You might get yourself into trouble asking that question.

And there actually is a girl...
I knew it.

Yep, you're right, it's the

Yep, you're right, it's the subtle rainbow that we used to name our app. And okay, this girl gave the idea to search an Hawaiian dict... Congratulations! ;)
So why that meaning, you ask? Mhm, there are several answers to this. The most simple and maybe bland: "Cloud" itself didn't have a nice translation - and clicking through the dict, we just liked "Punakea" most... ;) Anyway, feel free to reinterpret the name...

Daniel, I expected a more

Daniel, I expected a more astonishing solution. Nevermind, the name rocks :)

Is it Maori? (Are you guys expat kiwis?)

Puna is a spring or well.
Kea (apart from being the mountain parrot) in this context is mucus (or phlegm).

So Punakea is a made up word for what? A runny nose?

Those of us living in Hawaii

Those of us living in Hawaii have access to the real thing - a Hawaiian English Dictionary - in this case, published by the University of Hawaii Press, 1957, by Mary Kawena Pukui & Samuel H. Elbert.

The definition of puna kea in the dictionary is "White coral, as cast ashore by the sea."

Pretty name for a girl, too.

Aloha, all. Neat app, though a little challenging to figure out. Good luck with it.
