I would like to use tags on files that are on a linux-based file server (using NFS). I would browse/edit using Mac's, but I want all of the Mac's to share the tag space. The tags would live on the file server; I'd like all the various Mac's on the network to be able to read and update all the tags.
The new "automatic folder structure" based on tags is totally cool, and just what I'm looking for, if it is supported on networks.
I'm still running Tiger, but will upgrade to Leopard if Punakea now supports networks (or will soon).
Fabulous product ... IMO tagging will revolutionize how data is accessed.

Hi crash,
it is possible to have your files on a file server, but it is not possible to share the tags among macs - you would have to do this manually. Punakea is a single user app at the moment, and using a file server and multiple macs would need hacks, sorry :(
Great you like the new features, though! :)

Thanks for your prompt and courteous reply.
Okay, so I'll do it manually. It would work for me to do all of the tag maintenance on one particular mac, then copy the tags to other macs.
Can you tell me what files need to be copied from one mac to others? I'm hoping to write a script that will do this.
If it turns out to be useful, I'll be happy to post the script.

You need to keep the ~/Library/Application Support/Punakea/DB directory in sync (the tags are contained in the tags file)
I hope you can get to work to your satisfaction :)
