Is there any possibility to tag a file (word, ppt, excel, etc) at the same time as it is saved for the first time?
Or do you first have to save it somewhere on the disk and then open finder, go to the map where the file has been saved and then start tagging it?
What is your workflow for tagging single files?

My suggestion:
1. Save your document somewhere, don't close the document's window.
2. In the titlebar of your document on the left side of the name there is a little icon. Draging that icon has the same effect as draging the file itself. So, you don't have to open the finder and search for the file, just drag the little icon onto Punakeas sidebar or Tagger window.

This seems to work for
This seems to work for documents in iWork, but not for MS Office programs, at least in Snow Leopard. Is that a Punakea issue or a MS or Apple one?
Also, I should note that
Also, I should note that this program, Tagger, creates tags that Punakea can read and DOES work with the front window for any program.

This note from the developer might be helpful in adding this function to Punakea's tagger:
Note: In order to enable this feature, you need to select the "Enable access for assistive devices" option in the "Universal Access" preference pane in System Preferences.
I should add that this
I should add that this Tagger program will not automatically move files into Punakea-managed folders. It's only useful if you are tagging files but not having them automatically organized by Punakea.
