Thoughts on v1.1.1 RC1

There is a lot to like about the new RC1 candidate particularly the new import folder/tag feature. However, at least in my trials the import folder creates several tags that either reflect hidden files or are spurious (to me) entries. Specifically, i imported a folder and Punakea correctly added to new tags for all the files and sub-folders therein but it also created a tag (with no files) for something called ".spotlight" as well as a tag called ".nb" as well as several others that seem to be tags for file types (e.g. Pages files. PDF's, etc.) -- however there are no files actually named "Pages" or "PDF".

So the import folder function seems a little overzealous in classifying and tagging files and folder contents.

Still, you've got to love Punakea -- I do and I think the developers will sort this out if it is a bug.

Thanks a lot for trying this

Thanks a lot for trying this and giving us feedback - that's what our RC releases are for and this time it seems it worked like intended!

We really have overlooked theses possibilities - we have put in a check for .files but not for .directories - will be fixed.

Regarding the unwanted tags without leading ".", are you sure that there is also PDF? Anyway, we'll test and release an updated version soon.

Thanks again for testing Punakea and telling us so quickly!

Cheers,
Johannes

Johannes, Thanks for the

Johannes,

Thanks for the quick followup and the explanation on this. I was in error on one point, as you questioned, there was no PDF tag created -- the following is a list of the non-file or non-folder tags that I see when I imported a folder in Punakea just now.

.spotlight
attachments
Contents
Index3
pages

In addition it seems Punakea overlooks or ignores creating a tag for an empty sub-folder (onw with no files) contained within a sub-folder nested in the imported folder. I can send screenshots of what I'm trying to explain if I'm not being clear.

Thanks again, I look forward to testing out future release candidates. This is really a great and truly useful piece of software you've developed.

Cheers,

joe

Hey Joe, thanks for the

Hey Joe,

thanks for the quick feedback again! We just released an updated testing version, where we fixed the problems with spurious folders being created. Hope it works when you test it!

Empty folders are ignored on purpose, only files are tagged, not folders - so an empty folder will never be assigned as tag. Do you have an example where that might be necessary?

Cheers
Johannes

Johannes, Ah, of course,

Johannes,

Ah, of course, you're right -- I can't see the necessity of tagging an empty folder either.

I downloaded the v2 release candidate just now -- I'll see if I can break anything ;-)

Cheers from sunny Annapolis, MD,
